B) SPSS Training Courses - Data Mining and Modeling modules

1.  Data MINING: overview

This 1-day course introduces you to the major steps of the data mining process. The course goal is for you to be able to begin planning or evaluate your firm’s current plan for data mining. Topics include: setting goals; framing research questions; organizing, cleaning and reducing data; selecting analysis methods, presenting and automating. This is the first course in the SPSS Data Mining series. Detailed examination of the data mining steps will be provided by other courses within the SPSS Data Mining series. Given the overview nature of the course, there will be class discussion but no hands on practice using SPSS Modeler.

2.  Introduction to Data Mining Techniques using SPSS Modeler

This comprehensive 3-days course logically guides attendees through the fundamentals of using SPSS Modeler.  The course is structured so as to provide effective training in the data mining process – data input, data modification, data analysis and data modeling which involve training and testing of models generated.  Attendees will learn to efficiently utilize the functions available in SPSS Modeler so as to get the most from their data.  Through a series of “hands-on” session, they will gain that vital experience to become a better data miner.

(Modules Used: SPSS Modeler)

1. data MINING: data understanding & preparation

This 2-days course reviews the issues and considerations relevant when business research questions are to be addressed by data mining. Included are such topics such as framing answerable and testable business analysis questions, research design, the importance of sampling and selecting relevant comparison groups, the influence of data type on analysis method and how to choose among the available data mining/statistical methods. This course is aim at those without background in research methods (or a refresher for those who have). Given the nature of this course, there will be class discussion but little of hands-on practice using SPSS Modeler and SPSS Base.

(Modules Used:  SPSS Modeler and SPSS Base Stats)

2. data MANIPULATION USING SPSS Modeler

This 2-days course, designed for current users of SPSS Modeler, reviews a number of data manipulation techniques available within SPSS Modeler. Attendees will see how to combine and manipulate files, sample data, handle missing values, and work with dates and sequence data.

(Modules Used: SPSS Modeler)

3. data MINING: modeling

This 2-days course will introduce, explain, compare and contrast the major modeling methods in data mining and illustrate them using SPSS software. It will enable SPSS customers to choose, apply and interpret the results from the data mining method appropriate for their business question.

(Modules Used: SPSS Base Stats, SPSS Modeler)

4. data MINING: visualization, reporting and deployment

This 2-days course presents several topics important for data mining. It first covers how graphics can be used to obtain insight into patterns and relations in data. Next, it demonstrates how to produce business reports using the SPSS OLAP Cube procedure. Finally, it presents SPSS solutions to the question of how to deploy results.

(Modules Used: SPSS Base Stats, SPSS Modeler)

1. ADVANCED MODELING USING SPSS Modeler

This 2-days course, designed for current users of SPSS Modeler, reviews the expert options available in the SPSS Modeler modeling dialogs (neural networks, rule induction, clustering and association rules, linear and logistic regression) and introduces advanced modeling methods, such as meta modeling.

(Modules Used:  SPSS Modeler)
